All of the Colosseum events started when the Colosseum was opened and running so it was about 80 AD!!!!
Gladiators
The Colosseum was made for a gladiator arena. The gladiators were prisoners that they had won war against. The prisoners would work some where, like a pit, building which needs to be made and odd jobs here and there until they where chosen to be a gladiator. The gladiators where then trained by professionals to fight. When they were good enough they fought in the Colosseum. The gladiators fought to death or until the emperor said so. The gladiators had to fight against humans or animals. It is estimated that 500,000 people and over a million wild animals died in the Colosseum.
Animals
Animals were used in the Colosseum for entertainment like the gladiators. They were found or caught in the wild, they then were trained to eat and attack humans in front of thousands by animal handlers. But if they turned around and left the arena the animal handler would be killed in front of the spectators. They used these animals: wild boars, bulls, bears, deer, stags, dogs, wolves, goats, antelopes, buffaloes, snakes, giraffes, lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, panthers, elephants, crocodiles, jaguars, chimpanzees.
