Titus

Titus

Titus was born around December the 30th 41 AD. His father was emperor Vespasian and mother Domitilla and he had a younger brother Domitian. He grew up with Britannicus, son of the emperor Claudius and shared his training. This meant by the time Titus was given command he had, had enough training to lead. When Titus went to Judaea he fell in love with a girl Berenice, she was daughter of Herod Agrippa. She later came back with him to Rome and was still together until he became emperor.  On June the 24th 79 AD Vespasian (Titus’ father) died, leaving Titus to be emperor over Rome. He though was only emperor for 26 months because he died suddenly.

One of Titus’ amazing accomplishments was the Colosseum finished in 80 AD. He built the Colosseum for entertainment and to make his people happy. As some were complaining and angry with him. It says in his biography that Suetonius says ‘Titus has been suspected of riotous living and greed, perhaps forgery, and people feared he would be another Nero.’  They all though changed their minds after the Colosseum opened and put on spectacular games. People in the end like him and said that he banished spies, treated senators well and helped out victims of fire, diseases and volcanoes. Titus was remembered fondly over his short time of reign.
